One Sunday morning, shortly before the new millennium, Mats Krantz called his son Martin to discuss a dream he had just woken up from. Usually, Mats Krantz’s wife suffered from a frozen shoulder, causing her to experience terrible pain when using a computer mouse. But in the dream, she was able to control the computer using just her eye movements. When she moved her eyes, the mouse cursor moved. When she blinked, it clicked.
“Is this something we could make a reality?”, Mats asked his son. Having recently graduated with a degree in Engineering Physics from Chalmers University of Technology,
Martin was developing fiber optic pressure sensors at the time. After promising to take a look at it, he came to the conclusion that it would be very difficult. And very possible.
In the summer of 1999, Martin quit his job and founded Smart Eye along with his father. Since then, we’ve come further than anyone in making our vision a reality, with the help of an ever-expanding team of brilliant minds. A team that still includes Mats, a valued member of the board, and Martin, our first and present CEO.
